More than 150 Libyan manufacturing companies dedicated to selling wide consumption products will be participating in the second edition of the “Made in Libya” exhibition to held in Niamey, Niger, from 14 to 19 March.
The updated was provided today in an exclusive interview with Libya Herald by Ali Nuseer, the Executive Director of the Libyan Industry Union (LIU).
He also confirmed the participation of the Libyan Export Promotion Centre (LEPC), several representatives of Libyan Chambers of Commerce and some government institutions and public legal entities.
Transit trade through Niger to the rest of Africa Nuseer highlighted economic agreements concluded between manufacturers, investors and merchants in Libya and Niger. These, he explained, focus on developing mechanisms for exporting goods and services, whether fully or partially manufactured in Libya or imported from outside Libya to Niger - and on to the rest of the African countries. The rest of the African countries are considered Libya’s main target of transit trade through Niger.
Inevitability of economic interdependence between Libya and neighbouring countries The LIU Executive Director said there is an inevitability of economic interdependence between Libya and its neighbouring countries, and especially Niger. Niger will have the most prominent role in linking Libya with sub-Saharan Africa due to its political stability and good economic growth. He noted that its people are willing to work with everyone who extends their hand to advance their economy.
Access by land is an advantage One of the most important advantages of economic interdependence with Niger is the ease of land linkage, which requires only the establishment of infrastructure and logistical services that will provide stable job opportunities for the people of the Libyan south and border areas. This will open doors for new sources of income and stop smuggling operations that the border regions with neighbouring countries are notorious for, Nuseer concluded.
