The head of the Department of Support and Development of Medical Services (DSDMS) praised the outstanding success of the first phase of localizing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) surgeries, announcing the launch of the second phase for 2026 to reduce waiting lists.

He highly commended the efforts of the local medical team, which performed 65 surgeries during 2025, with a target of 25 additional surgeries in 2026 using advanced American valves.

Training local cadres
He emphasized that this initiative, directly supported by the Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, is currently expanding to train teams from Tripoli and Misrata, paving the way for transferring the experience to Benghazi and Sabha.

Localising and rationalising the cost of treatment
This aims to ensure that this costly treatment, usually conducted abroad, is provided free of charge within the country, eliminating the need to travel abroad.
