Libyan Railroads reported last Saturday (12 July) that an agreement was signed on the same day in Beijing with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for the Chinese company to resume the implementation work on its stalled railway projects ‘‘in accordance with the contracts concluded between the two parties’’.‎ No further details of the contract were revealed.

The agreement was signed during Libyan Railroads’ delegation’s visit to China to participate in the 12th World Congress on High-Speed Rail in Beijing from 8 to 11 July.

‎The agreement signing followed a working meeting held last Friday 11 July between the technical delegation of Libyan Railroads headed by Chairman Saeed Al-Kilani, and members of his accompanying delegation with Chen Shichang, General Manager of CCECC and several company officials, in the presence of the Libyan Ambassador to China, Khaled Al-Sayeh.

The meeting discussed the contracts concluded between the two parties to implement railway projects in the Tripoli - Ras Ajdir, Tripoli - Sirte and Al-Haysha – Sabha sectors. During the meeting CCECC had expressed its desire to complete the implementation of the project. It was agreed to continue coordination to demonstrate the difficulties and find solutions for the return of the Chinese company to resume the implementation of the Libyan railway project.‎

UIC exempts Libyan Railways from unpaid membership fees
At the event the Libyan Railroads delegation, led by Chairman Saeed Salem Al-Kilani, also met with François Davin, Director General of the International Union of Railways (UIC) where UIC exempted Libyan Railroads from its unpaid membership fees for previous years.
