The Spanish Embassy in Tripoli announced yesterday that it has opened its Schengen visa application centre in Tripoli.
Announcing the news on social media, the embassy said ‘‘We have finally opened our BLS office in Tripoli, and the first applicants have arrived at the centre. From the embassy, we hope to facilitate procedures for Libyan citizens in this way’’.
Commenting exclusively to Libya Herald on the announcement, Alvaro Bordallo, Deputy Spanish Ambassador and Commercial Attache to Libya said, "Spain is happy to announce the opening of the BLS visa application centre in Tripoli which will receive visa applications for Libyan nationals.
This is an important step for the Spanish consulate and positive news for all Libyans who will no longer need to travel to Tunis in order to obtain a visa to visit Spain".
Bordallo further explained that ‘‘Applications submitted in Tripoli will need a slightly longer time to be processed but in return visa applicants will not have to travel to Tunisia to submit their biometric information and supporting documents. For more pressing cases, the visa application centre in Tunis will remain open for Libyans.’’
