Al-Khadra Hospital Resumes ACL Surgery as Part of Libya's Healthcare Localisation

After a nine-year hiatus, Al-Khadra Hospital restarts cruciate ligament reconstruction operations

Al-Khadra General Hospital announced yesterday that after a 9-year hiatus it conducted its first arthroscopic ACL reconstruction operation, reconstructing and transplanting the cruciate ligament.

The hospital said this came after supporting and assisting the Orthopaedic Department work team with the necessary capabilities, and within the framework of the permanent endeavour of its management to develop the medical services provided by its various departments and to alleviate the suffering citizens.

Localisation of healthcare policy The resumption of the delivery of healthcare by numerous departments across hospitals in Libya comes as part of the Tripoli-based Libyan government’s localisation of healthcare policy.

This localisation gives more value for money to the state by treating more Libyans for the same money, reducing corruption in the highly corrupt overseas health provision system. It is also more democratic as overseas healthcare is overcompetitive and oversubscribed. It is open to much corruption and nepotism.

Localising healthcare is also more convenient for patients who would otherwise have to travel abroad for their healthcare with one or two chaperones.
