The UAE humanitarian aid air bridge to Libya is continuing, according to Sultan Al Shamsi, UAE’s Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development Affairs and International Organizations, the UAE’s official state news agency WAM reported today.
It said the volume of humanitarian and relief aid sent by the UAE, since the inauguration of its air bridge on September 12 to Libya to mitigate the effects of Storm Daniel, has reached 622 tons through 28 aircraft, benefiting 6,386 families.
The aid included food supplies, shelter materials, and health packages and first aid supplies distributed in the areas most affected by the disaster in eastern Libya, in addition to search and rescue teams equipped with modern machinery and equipment.
The UAE Red Crescent Authority team is currently still present in the affected areas in eastern Libya, delivering aid to those affected, assessing field conditions, and studying current actual needs, to provide more of it through continuous air bridge trips from the UAE to Libya, the report stated.
The report stated that the UAE relief programme included providing and sending shelter supplies, food and health supplies, and other necessary needs. It also sent search and rescue teams equipped with helicopters, cruisers, vehicles designated for rescue missions, generators and other multiple devices. Last Thursday, the Emirati Disaster Victim Identification Team (DVI) arrived in Libya, which the report said is the first in the world to arrive in Derna to carry out these specific tasks.
