The Spanish embassy in Tripoli will start issuing visas to Libyans in October. Previously Spain was only processing its visas to Libyans from Tunis.
The news was revealed yesterday by the Tripoli-based Libyan government after a meeting was held between its Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abd al-Rahman Khamada, and the Spanish Ambassador to Libya, Javier García-Larrache.
The Libyan government reported that the Spanish ambassador confirmed the resumption of work in the consular section of the Spanish embassy in Tripoli and the provision of visa services to Libyan citizens during the month of October.
For his part, the Director of the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed Spain's decision to reopen its consular section in Tripoli, considering it a step towards strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two friendly countries.
Khamada also discussed with the Spanish ambassador several issues of common concern, extending congratulations to the ambassador on the occasion of his country's presidency of the European Union, hoping that its presidency would reflect positively on relations between Libya and the European Union, especially in the file of irregular migration.
