After a long wait and anticipation, Misrata Airport’s Departures Hall was inaugurated last week. Acting incumbent Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, the Minister of Transportation, the Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority, the Head of the Airports Authority, several ministers, deputy ministers, the Municipal Council, several ambassadors, the Council of Notables and Elders all participated in the opening of the hall.
Misrata Airport’s Media Office reported that the has a hall area of 8,000 square metres able to accommodate more than one and a half million passengers annually.
PPP by default? The departures hall was completed on a Public Private Partnership basis, but more by accident than by design. The lack of central government funds meant that local government, local entities, and local private businesses financed the departure hall’s implementation.
This included Misrata Council, the Libyan Iron and Steel Company and the Free Port.
