UNICEF Libya revealed yesterday that it had installed a pilot solar-powered water pumping station at the Znata Pumping Station in Tripoli. The project was implemented with the Libyan Water Ministry and funded by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
Commenting on the project, UNICEF said that as access to uninterrupted clean water in Libya remains crucial for the survival of children and their caregivers and the fight against the Coronavirus. It said it has been scaling up its Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) assistance in Libya to ensure sustainable services.
Solar-powered water systems are clean, green and make use of renewable energy in abundant supply in Libya, it added.
The pump station is a main supplier of water to the populous Sug Juma area.
