Libyan-Tunisian cross land border trade has returned to the heights it enjoyed in previous decades, the Supreme Council of Libyan Tunisian Businessmen (SCLTB) reported.
It quoted the mayor of the border town of Ben Guerdane who confirmed that the commercial movement between Tunisia and Libya has returned to its normal pattern decades ago with a boom in the movement of goods to Libya and in the shops of Ben Guerdane.
He added that hundreds of trucks were recorded daily from the Ras Ajadir crossing, in addition to many trips between the two countries, which he said is considered a positive economic indicator.
Libya-Tunisia trade – some stats
It will be recalled that Libya represents Tunisia's fifth customer in the world, and the first in the Arab world and Maghreb, by 3.5 percent of the total Tunisian exports in 2020, according to Tunisian data.
The agricultural products and food industries sector ranks first in Tunisian exports to Libya, at 42 percent, followed by the various industries sector, at 38 percent, and the mechanical and electrical industries sector, with 19 percent of total exports.
