By Maha Ellawati. Benghazi, 6 July 2016:

The commander of the 210 Brigade, Idris Abdulmula Al-Barasi, was killed tonight along with an as yet unknown number of colleagues in a car bomb attack in Ganfouda.

Details are sketchy but it appears that the vehicle was driven by a suicide bomber, though some reports suggest there was no one driving and it may have been directed by remote control.

There is also concern that a car loaded with explosives was able to pass through soldiers investing the surviving militants trapped in Ganfouda.

Army sources have rubbished as propaganda recent IS posts showing well-equipped terrorists taking on the attacking army forces.

As with this morning’s attack to the south-west of the seaside resort, it appears that the terrorists have taken advantage of what appears to be a general drop in vigilance on the first day of the Eid holiday.
