Large crowds turned out in Beida today for the funeral of Colonel Mohamed Bughafir. He was killed leading mujahideen forces in an operation against Islamic State (IS) fighters yesterday.
The numbers bore testimony to the town’s loyalty to one of their own – Bughafir was from Beida – despite the the government being based in the town and being firmly supportive of it and the House of Representatives.
Bughafir had headed Beida’s Ali Hassan Al-Jabber Brigade but went to Derna this year and joined its mujahideen against IS.
