Tripoli, 25 November

A Libyan supertanker tanker marooned  in Greece for two years thanks to an Athens court battle is now back safely in Tripoli.

Last week the Greek Supreme Court rejected an attempt to hold the tanker, the Al-Hani for another week.  The  vessel, which is the  fifth largest in fleet of the state-owned General National Maritime Transport Company, capable of carrying 800,000 barrels of crude, was held after a Greek lawyer claimed the GNMTC  owed him €6.5 million. The issue was disputed and the case has dragged on through Greece’s commercial courts for over two years.

It is unclear what sort of a settlement, if any, was finally reached or whether the judges in fact threw out the claim altogether.
