Alerted to a burned-out vehicle on the road linking Ajdabiya and Tobruk, security officials in Ajdabiya discovered four bodies burned beyond recognition. Ambulances were dispatched to the scene, some 150 kilometres outside Ajdabiya, to recover the dead.
A security source, who wished not to be named, said that a driver for the Brega Oil Company had reported seeing a burned Hyundai Accent on the road on Saturday. The car had apparently been there between noon Saturday and early Sunday morning.
It is not yet clear what happened, though a car smash as not been ruled out. Security forces are trying to identify the four and work out how they died.
