Libya Body Count, an NGO dedicated to keeping track of the number of violent deaths in Libya, reports that there were a total of 2,803 violent deaths in the country in 2014.
Benghazi recorded the highest number of deaths followed by Tripoli.

The months of February, April and March witnessed the lowest comparative number of recorded deaths in Libya, totalling ‘just’ 30.
The death rate accelerated from July onwards after the fighting broke out in Tripoli between the Misrata-led and GNC supported Libya Dawn militias and the Zintani-led HoR supported militias.
The recorded death rates also rose significantly after summer with the escalation of fighting between the Hafter-led Karama forces in Benghazi against what is referred to as extremist/Islamist militias.
The highest rates of recorded deaths were in Benghazi (1,442) which were nearly three times those in Tripoli (519). Kikla was third (181), Wershafana fourth (147) and Sebha fifth (134). No other city got into triple figures.
Putting the numbers in perspective in relation to Libya’s population of 6.6 million, Libya Count reports that the recorded death figures for 2014 give Libya a homicide rate of 45.8 per 100,000. This compares to Arab Spring neighbour Tunisia of only 2.2 and Egypt of only 3.4.
