Tripoli, 25 September 2014:
Writer, media personality and activist Faraj Abualeshah was kidnapped yesterday from his central Tripoli hotel.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the abduction. Abualeshah was last seen at the Safwa Hotel in central Tripoli.
Known predominately as a writer, Abualeshah was a harsh critic of the Qaddafi regime and played an active role in the February 17 Revolution.
His abduction has been condemned by well-known human rights advocate Hassan Al-Amin who appealed for Abualeshah’s immediate release. “Whatever political and intellectual differences anyone may have, abduction remains a crime against humanity,” he said.
Human Rights Watch’s chief researcher in Libya Hanan Salah said on social media: “He must be released immediately, unharmed.”
