Benghazi, 24 March 2014:

Mystery still surrounds the kidnapping of a child in Sirte this morning, who was found safe at lunchtime today.

The boy, who has not been named for security reasons, was abducted this morning at 7am on his way to school by masked men, a local resident told the Libya Herald. He was taken away in a car with tinted windows and no number plates.

He was reportedly found in the town at around 1pm, inside a sack. He was alive and there have been no reports suggesting he had been harmed in any way. The reasons for the kidnapping remain a mystery.

Immediately after the incident, teachers and pupils from the school staged a small protest.
