Tripoli, 28 September 2013:
The residents of Sirte started blocking the main east-west coastal highway today. They have issued seven demands as the price for reopening it.
These are:
- An Islamic constitution based on the Sharia;
- Congress to pass a vote of no-confidence in the government of Ali Zeidan and agree the formation of a emergency administration;
- The opening of an investigation into claims of corruption in oil sales;
- Local council elections in Sirte;
- The establishment of a security force to protect vital facilities in Sirte;
- The abolition of the decision to split Sirte district into four municipalities;
- An investigation into alleged financial corruption in the medical committee in Sirte responsible for sending people abroad for treatment and it claimed reslted in LD 5.8 million being misappropriated.
