Tripoli, 8 April 2013:

A senior Benghazi security officer was gunned down around dawn this morning in a drive-by shooting in the Sabri district of the city.

The dead man was Colonel Bashir Ajwali, reportedly a former member of Qaddafi’s mukhabarat.  Described by those who knew him as a tough individual with piercing green eyes, a local claimed to Libya Herald today that Ajwali had earnt himself a fearsome reputation for mounting raids. “A lot of people suffered because of him, said the man.

After the attack at 4:30 am today, the assassins fled the scene in their vehicle. Investigators currently have no leads on their identity.
