Tripoli, 6 November:

One person was reported killed and four others injured in clashes yesterday, Monday, between the Supreme Security Committee (SSC) forces and a local militia in the Souq Al-Khamis district of Khoms.

Heavy machine gun fire and rocket-propelled grenades were used in the shootout between the local branch of the SSC and a brigade named Katibat Nusur Al-Sahel (“The Coast Eagles”). It is unclear whether the brigade belongs to or acted under the command of any umbrella organisation. The fighting was reported to have ended after a few hours.

A security source in Khoms told the press that the person killed was a member of the SSC and that it was the militia who first opened fire on the SSC when the latter attempted to capture one of the brigade's members.

According to a Reuters report, the incident was also linked to a personal dispute between two rival commanders who are both members of the Al-Zayed tribe of Khoms and that the SSC was detaining several brigade members. Rumours claim that the SSC intervened following "problems" at a girls’ highschool in the morning.
