Tripoli, 10 August:
The National Congress elected two vice speakers earlier today, Friday, following the election of Mohammed Magarief late last night.
They are Juma Ateega, an independent congressman from Misrata, and Saleh Essaleh, a Justice & Construction party member from the Wadi Eshatti district in south-western Libya.
Ateega picked up 103 votes in the final round as against Essaleh’s 93.
The two also-rans for the post were Suleiman Gajam, an independent from Yefren who picked up 37 votes in the first round of voting, and Essenussi Erhouma, a member of the little-known Arrakeeza party also from Wadi Eshatti, who took 11 votes.
Ateega took 75 votes in the first round and and Essaleh 72.
