A major fire broke out at a government-owned oil and grease refinery in the industrial area of Benghazi on Saturday. The Booker gas station, the Al-Madina paint factory and a paper factory were all situated nearby.

Nobody was injured in the fire, which went on for around six hours before the authorities could extinguish it.

It is not known whether the outbreak of the fire was accidental or malicious, but the Supreme Security Committee in Benghazi has said it suspects former Qaddafi loyalists were behind the incident. Several other major fires have broken out in Benghazi in recent months, most of them at government-owned facilities.
